I cant keep any turbos alive very long because of the crabs in my tank eating them!!

I've never heard of bristle worms attacking a live snail, but you never know.

There are worms called spaghetti worms that are long and skinny and bright red that do attack snails. But if you had these in great numbers, all of your snails would be gone, not just the turbo's.

The last one was in the tank a week before it died.  There was lots for him to eat so I'm not sure starvation was a factor.  The water temp is in the low 70s.  In fact, I've been struggling with low water temps because this winter has been so brutal.  Iodine I add weekly.  But maybe it is something else chemical.  I wonder if bristle worms are a factor.  Normally, I think they are beneficial but I have a HUGE population of them now.  It's a 72 gal but the only fish I keep is a mandarin.  So, no predators for the worms.  Shine a flashlight on the rocks in the dark and it's a scene out of a horror movie.

Mexican Turbo snails are temperate water snails and do not live long if water temps are  > 77F.

However, they should live at least a few months even at higher temperatures. If they die within a few days of introduction and acclimation was done properly, I would suspect a predator, chemical factors, or starvation.

Predator- possibly a small rock/gorilla crab is in your tank. I had one of these in my tank for 2 years before it got large enough to cause havoc on my livestock. Red leg hermits are known to attack them.

Starvation- the larger turbo's eat a lot and can starve very quickly. IMHO, they seem to eat only certain types of film/macro algae and may not be getting the proper food.

Chemical- They slow down and don't move very much in low salinity (< 1.022). They also seem more active with iodine additions and higher alkalinity.

Turbo snails

I am having a problem with keeping turbo snails alive in my reef tank.  The tank is thriving and healthy.  The corals never looked better and other mollusks like hitchhiking bumble bee snails seem okay.  Water parameters are fine.  I carefully acclimate the snails before added them. But then they die over the next few days.  Any ideas out there?
