Could be. My temps are very stable, but perhaps a water change with temps too cold/high might do it.

I've read on other forums that some people dig it up and put it in the refrigerator for a few months out of the year.

I wonder if it's triggered by a light cycle or a temp rise or fall. Something that makes the plant think a dry or cold season is coming

I can't figure out the lace plant. When I first got it, all its leaves turned brown and fell off and I thought it was dead. It made a come back in a big way. Then this same cycle repeated itself about a month ago. I know they go dormant from time to time but I would expect this to happen maybe once a year.
