Late to the table but I do approximately 25-30% a week on all my reef tanks.

That's interesting, I think I'm going to suggest that to my maintenance customers. They shouldn't mind me showing up everyday and charging them for 30 visits per month Cheesy

Thanks for participating in the Water Change Poll.

There's an interesting article in this month's CORAL magazine by Daniel Knopp about a new method of water changes for reef tanks. His method advocates a 1% - 1-1/2% daily water change, instead of the larger, less frequent ones. On a 100 gallon reef tank, this would be only a gallon a day.

His rational and explanation is very in-depth, but the thing that struck me as interesting is that most people think the larger water change reduces nutrient levels. It does, but  the nutrient levels quickly climb back up to the equilibrium of the aquarium within 24 to 48 hours.

Anyway, I'm going to give this a try on my 38 gal Nano and I'll post the results in a few months.

"I just top off whenever the tank gets low." -my least favorite thing to hear when customers lose livestock.

I do water changes on freshwater weekly, around 50% or as needed.  With salt, it really varies from system to system.  The rack with predators gets a scubbing and 25% change weekly, the coral system probably not but once every three-four weeks.

Share your water change regime- either fresh or saltwater aquariums.
